OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY


Pediatric occupational therapy facilitates/helps/assists/ children develop independence in functional daily living tasks. Functional daily living skills for children consist of:

  • Being able to engage with their family, caregivers, and environment;
  • Gaining control of their body to be able to complete developmental milestones;
  • Mastering play skills using their hands with coordinated skill;
  • Completing novel play tasks successfully;
  • Moving both sides of their body to accomplish developmentally appropriate play and self help tasks;
  • Being able to integrate sensory stimuli to focus on meaningful play or learning tasks to learn new skills;
  • Refining the ability to use eye hand coordination skills for mastery of the environment from catching
    a ball to using a pencil on paper;

Occupational therapists have advanced training in neurodevelopmental treatment, sensory integration, and therapeutic listening.
